You've likely seen the term "ASE Certified" when visiting a mechanic's shop or in particular, at a dealership's service department. You've probably gathered that ASE Certified refers to the qualifications of the mechanics or service techs, but do you truly understand what the acronym means or know why this certification is important?

ASE stands for "Automotive Service Excellence," and it means that a mechanic has completed certain requirements in training. Furthermore, it means that the mechanic in question is certified to work on any and every electrical component or system in every mechanical vehicle.

Mechanics who have obtained this qualification have verifiable proof of at least two years of service in automotive repair, they have completed the specialty exam that is offered twice yearly, and they may have a specialty in brakes, heating and cooling, and the like.

The certification is important because the mechanic who holds the ASE certificate is considered an automotive industry expert, and you can trust their repairs are correctly carried out.
