Introducing the 2024 Honda Prologue SUV

The 2024 Honda Prologue will be arriving before long and it will be the first Honda to operate with a fully-electric powertrain. The platform will be identical to the Ultium battery pack that's currently powering GM's Chevy Equinox EV. The entry-level powertrain will be a single motor and there will be a dual-motor all-wheel drive version as an available option. We can give you updates on the anticipated delivery of the Prologue but here's what we know about this vehicle at Mike Piazza Honda in Langhorne, PA.

EV motor and Performance

Because the new Prologue will use the same powertrain and platform as the Chevrolet Equinox EV, you can expect it to be available with a single-motor arrangement with front-wheel drive or two motors and all-wheel drive. The dual-motor/all-wheel-drive option should give you 288 horsepower and the amount of horsepower for the front-wheel drive model will be announced at a later date. Buyers from Trenton and Southhampton are welcome to check with us for updates.

Driving range

Every new Honda Prologue will operate with an 85.0-kilowatt battery pack that's made by General Motors. If you buy the single-motor front-wheel drive version you should get an estimated driving range of about 300 miles as long as weather conditions are ideal. The dual-motor all-wheel drive variation is expected to give you about 280 miles of driving range but stronger acceleration. We realize that 300 miles of range is far below the 476 miles of highway driving range you can get with a gasoline-powered Honda CR-V but that's a challenge you're likely to face with almost any electric vehicle.

Technology

The dashboard in the new Honda Prologue will have a big 11.3-inch infotainment touch screen. Wireless smartphone connectivity is expected to be part of the package and so is an in-dash navigation system. The new Prologue should provide an 11.0-inch digital gauge display along with wireless device charging as standard features. In the Touring and Elite trims, the new 2024 Prologue is expected to offer an available premium Bose sound system with 12 speakers.

Interior highlights

The new Honda Prologue will reportedly use a simple dashboard design that's reminiscent of the Honda Civic as well as the Honda Passport SUV. The Prologue's wheelbase is expected to be about 8 inches longer than the CR-V and it will also be wider by about 5 inches. Based on those metrics, the new Honda Prologue is expected offer a cabin with more space and cargo room than the gas-powered CR-V.

Estimated charging times

If you invest the money to install a 220-volt outlet in your garage it should take about 5 or 6 hours to fully-charge the new Honda Prologue and get 300 miles of range. Of course, we understand this is an inconvenience when you can get around 475 miles of range after a five-minute fill-up with a Honda like the CR-V but that's a point to be aware of when evaluating any EV.
