Learning to use a multimeter is actually quite simple, and it can make the difference between experiencing a battery failure while cruising and securely driving with a fully functioning electrical system and a fully charged battery unit. How can you use a multimeter for this purpose, though?

You can take this tool and measure precisely how much voltage is coming from your current battery unit. Ideally, you should see a number that is north of 12.6 volts, assuming you have performed this multimeter test with the engine off. If you have performed this test instead with the engine on, then a range of 14.7 to 13.7 volts is to be expected.

What should you do if your measurements do not align with these guidelines? Mike Piazza Honda suggests having a professional technician, like the ones at our Langhorne location, have a look to determine whether a replacement battery is required.
